A Great War 1917 ‘Western Front’ M.M. group of five awarded to Private G. Haldane, 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, who died of wounds, 19 October 1918 Military Medal, G.V.R. (9678 Pte. G. Haldane. 2/A. & S. Hdrs.); 1914 Star, with clasp (9678 Pte. G. Haldane A & S.H.) renamed; British War and Victory Medals (9678 Pte. G. Haldane. A. & S.H. ); France, Third Republic, Croix de Guerre, bronze, reverse dated 1914-1918, with bronze palm on riband, generally good very fine (5) £300-£340 Footnote Provenance: Massie Collection, Dix Noonan Webb, September 1999 (when sold without 1914 Star). M.M. London Gazette 18 July 1917. France, Croix de Guerre London Gazette 29 January 1919. George Haldane was born in Glasgow. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in the French theatre of war from 10 August 1914 (entitled to 1914 Star and clasp). Haldane subsequently transferred to the 10th Battalion, and died of wounds, 19 October 1918. Private Haldane is buried in Glasgow (Lambhill) Cemetery.
