A HIGHLY IMPORTANT AND VERY RARE EARLY MING BLUE AND WHITE 'DRAGON' BRUSHWASHER YONGLE PERIOD (1403-1425) Superbly potted with a slightly convex flattened base which becomes almost concave at the very centre, enclosed by upright gently flaring sides divided into ten bracket-lobes, finely painted with a single powerful five-clawed dragon writhing amidst cloud-scrolls on the interior, bound by a double-line border, this vibrant composition repeated on the countersunk base and framed by the bracket-lobed foot, the ten lobed sides centred with unbordered roundels of dragons alternately leaping and plunging amidst clouds, the cobalt-blue of a brilliant and intense tone with small areas of 'heaping and piling', all under an unctuous clear glaze with an 'orange-peel' effect, the unglazed foot ring revealing the fine white body 7 1/4 in. (18.3 cm.) across, box
