EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY), THE KATANA SIGNED HIZEN KUNI HASHIMOTO SHINZAEMON FUJIWARA TADAYOSHI AND DATED TENPO JUYONEN HACHIGATSU HI (1843.8), THE WAKIZASHI SIGNED HIZEN KUNI TADAYOSHI (8TH GENERATION)
A Hizen Daisho Pair of Swords with Mounts Edo period (19th century), the katana signed Hizen kuni Hashimoto Shinzaemon Fujiwara Tadayoshi and dated Tenpo juyonen hachigatsu hi (1843.8), the wakizashi signed Hizen kuni Tadayoshi (8th generation) Katana Hon-zukuri iori-mune, chu-kissaki, torii-zori with a tight ko-itame forging pattern and a chu-suguha tempered edge of nioi, ko-maru boshi, ubu tang with kiri file marks and one hole, two-piece gold foil habaki ; 27¾in. (70.3cm); in shirasaya Wakizashi Hon-zukuri iori-mune extended kissaki, torii-zori , ko-itame mixed with mokume with a gentle notare tempered edge with nioi, nie, ara-nie and ashi , komaru boshi , ubu tang with kiri file marks and one hole, two-piece gold foil habaki ; 15½in. (39.3cm.); in shirasaya Both mounts with a black-lacquer saya designed with ribs running the length of the blade and highlighted with flecks of shell, and mounted with shakudo nanako-ji kozuka or kogai decorated with blossoming autumn plants in iroe taka-zogan , matching fuchi-gashira and shakudo and gold flower-basket menuki and mokko-gata shakudo nanako-ji tsuba with autumn plants and a dragon around the rim in gold With Tokubetsu Kicho Token (Especially precious sword) certificate nos. 365055 and 323550 issued by the Nihon Bijitsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword) dated 1978.11.18 and 1976.3.14 (2)
