The present lot is a good example of Kakiemon wares manufactured at the Kakiemon kiln in Arita for export to the European market from the late 17th to the early 18th century. The contrast between the bright overglaze enamels against the white body made this type of porcelains popular to many European elites. A related Kakiemon lobed oval teapot and cover with gilt mounts, 1670-1700, is in the collection of The British Museum, London, acc.no.Franks.1034. Compare with a similar Kakiemon teapot and cover, late 17th century, which was sold at Sotheby's London, on 3 November 2020, lot 53.
