(Folio) 37.5x23.5 cm (14¾x9¼"), early half leather & cloth. Massive compilation of voyages and travels, "Revised, corrected and improved" from the earlier compilation by George W. Anderson. The text is gleaned from official and anecdotal accounts of the great Pacific voyages including those of James Cook, plus excursions into Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the far east, and the Americas. This copy lacking the frontispiece and one of the two large folding maps; the remaining map (of the world) is trimmed and mounted on a backing leaf, as have been 12 of the plates and the title page. Condition: Binding well worn, covers detached; title page chipped and wormed with loss at lower edge and corner obscuring the imprint and some text; several plate trimmed at fore-edge affecting a little of the caption or image in a few instances; some foxing within, internally very good overall, sold with all faults.
