Property from a Distinguished Private Collection, Washington, D.C.A PAIR OF ITALIAN NEOCLASSICAL GILTWOOD ARMCHAIRS, ROME, LATE 18TH CENTURY upholstered à chassis, the black painted backgrounds to the rosettes possibly later added, en suite with lots 116 and 117height 41 ½ in.; width 25 in.; depth 21 in.105.5 cm; 64 cm; 53.5 cmCondition ReportScattered flaking, rubbing and losses to gilding, particularly to proper right front hoof of one; refreshment to black painted background of guilloche moulding along rails, with variations to carving of rosettes, some possibly replaced; later corner brackets to inside of rails with holes and traces of previous metal bracket at front corners; one chair with a rosette return replaced and the other with replaced back seat rail; scattered old inactive worm holes; variations to gilding; a few small water stains to fabric; chassis frames not examined under upholstery; sturdy construction.
