A PAIR OF POTSCHAPPEL (CARL THIEME) TWO-HANDLED VASES, COVERS AND STANDS, the covers modelled with two cherubs flanking a crowned armorial, the shield-shaped bodies applied at the shoulders with two seated maidens holding garlands flanked by meandering flowerin branches issuing from the forked branch-moulded handles, painted in the style of Watteau with vignettes of musicians, including Gilles and Scaramouche from the Commedia dell'Arte , in Arcadian landscapes, the lower bodies moulded with pink and turquoise gadroons and each applied in high relief with a cherub beside a crowned armorial, the spirally fluted stems applied with birds on flowering twigs, on footed stands (chips to flowers and to hand and foot of one putto), blue cross and T marks, circa 1880 41½in.
