Arnhold, sold to benefit The Arnhold FoundationA RARE MEISSEN TEABOWL AND SAUCER AND TWO CHINESE FLUTED SAUCERS, CIRCA 1735-40 AND QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD the Meissen teabowl and saucer each painted in iron-red and embellished in gilding, the teabowl with two vignettes of flowers painted trailing downwards from the rim, the saucer painted in the center with flowering plants within concentric circles and in the cavetto with a further three flowering plants, the underside with concentric circles, both with trelliswork borders on the interior rims, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, teabowl with incised Dreher's mark incised Dreher's mark // for Johann Gottlieb Geithner (Rainer Rückert, Biographische Daten der Meißener Manufakturisten des 18. Jahrhunderts, Munich, 1990, p. 108), saucer with incised Dreher's marks /, a quartered circle, and numeral 2;each Chinese saucer painted in the center with flowering sprigs issuing from a rectangular jardinière with a scholar's rock in the center supported by a recessed leg table, both with incised Japanese Palace inventory numbers N=96-/ ↑diameter of Meissen saucer 5⅛ in.13 cm
