A rare pair of Chanel leather motoring gloves, 1929. stamped 'Creation Chanel, 31 Rue Cambon, Paris, modèle déposé' and numbered '7666', size 6 1/2, the gauntlet-style cuffs appliquéd with stripes in tan, black and ivory leather, 33cm long, 8cm across palm (2) This pair are from an inaugural series of glove designs that Chanel produced. They were illustrated in the 22nd August 1929 edition of the 'Rochester Democrat and Chronicle': 'Chanel, the famous Parisian couturière, tries her hand at glove designing with all the dash and elegance that characterize her dresses. In keeping with the new formality of fashion are her first three models which you'll find only at Forman's in Rochester. You may see them in the Glove Shop today in the identical colours introduced at Chanel's Paris opening'. A blue version of these gloves, together with a matching scarf, were sold by Christie's, lot 263, 3rd December 2009. .
