A VERY RARE AND HISTORIC CONFEDERATE REVOLVER by AUGUSTA MACHINE WORKS, Augusta Georgia Serial Letter K , circa 1862 Sighted octagonal barrel, rifled in 6 grooves, marked with the letter K on lug and on lever. Colour case hardened frame, marked K under grip strap and on arbour. Blued cylinder marked K on face (lacks one safety pin). Hammer with K marked on interior side. Brass grip strap and trigger guard. Varnished walnut grips (minor wear at edges). Together with its brown leather holster. Together with a letter detailing the history of the revolver through to the present owner. The revolver was came through Lt. Col. Roswell Moale Russell, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry, who brought the gun home from the war. The Colonel's son, a doctor, married Susan Risteau. The revolver then passed to her nephew Charles Dorsey, Jr. Mr. Dorsey later went on to become the managing director of The Baltimore Sun. The consignor was given this revolver as a direct gift from Mr. Dorsey in 1973 shortly after Mr. Dorsey's retirement. 76 inch band Roswell Moale Russell, was promoted Lt. Col. on 21 November 1861. He resigned on 1 Novemebr 1863 after serving in the Army of Tennessee and at Chickamauga, 19-20 September 1863.
