(Silver & Objects of Vertu, 25th March 2020) A Victorian sterling silver salver, Sheffield 1864 by Thomas Bradbury & Sons A Victorian sterling silver salver, Sheffield 1864 by Thomas Bradbury & Sons Of circular form with a concave edge and beaded rim, raised on three cast acanthus scroll and rosette bracket feet. The concave edge with embossed repeating vignettes of rosettes reserved with matting. The field with engraved decoration of strapwork, foliate scrolls and rosettes within hexafoil cartouches. The centre engraved with a crest of a mortar-piece casting out a bomb with flames, chained, encircled in the motto Barn Ar Agin. Fully marked to the reverse, and stamped J. Mayer silversmith L’Pool (Liverpool), also with registered design lozenge for 25th July 1864. Diameter – 32.5 cm / 12.75 inches Weight – 781 grams / 25.11 ozt The crest is for Fleming, as borne by the Lords of Slane, Baron in the Peerage of Ireland.
