(1899) Bound and mounted in four leaves in a fine illuminated manuscript hand, and illustrated, in watercolour, with local views.Title page with a depiction of Neptune guarding the harbour entranceBlackrock CastleThe river at TivoliThe entrance to the portBound in black Morocco with gilt lettering within a Greek key and scroll leaf border. Each leaf 33 x 23, overall 44 x 35.Although unsigned this is a work of the highest quality, the watercolour landscapes by an accomplished artist and the illuminated work obviously by a specialist.Downing, a prominent Cork business man, is congratulated in the text for advancing the improvement to the navigation, ''that when completed, it will enable vessels such as those employed in the Cross Channel Trade to enter and leave the Port at almost all states of the tide'' and for his input into serious parliamentary measures being discussed at the time.
