Natchez, Miss: 17 June 1870. 1 1/4 page letter on one sheet of Revels' Senate stationery addressed to Washington Ford and taking an interest in him and advising him. Some soiling; Together with BRUCE, BLANCHE, K. Signed card as Registrar U.S. Treasury, signed on the verso by Charles J. Folger, Secretary of the Treasury; RAINEY, JAMES H. Clipped signature on a larger sheet; And with an 1865 printed circular being the "Rules for the Interpretation of Contracts between Employers and Freedmen." Revels was the first person of color to serve in the United States Senate, Bruce the first to complete a Senate term, and Rainey the first African-American member of the House of Representatives. C
