Charlie Ahearn's hugely influential movie "Wild Style," considered to be the first Hip Hop film, featured a number of musicians, break dancers, beat boxers, and perhaps most famously, graffiti artists as indicated by the film's iconic opening credits of its animated logo. Afrika Islam is one of the pioneers of Hip Hop, beginning his career in 1977 when he was just ten years old. He started by learning to remix tracks under the tutelage of Afrika Bambaataa before going on to become a legendary DJ, hosting one of the first-ever Hip Hop radio shows, being a key member of the Rock Steady Crew, and forging a long-standing collaborative relationship with Ice T. The current lot is a t-shirt from the collection of Afrika Islam, featuring an iteration of the "Wild Style" logo used for the 1983 LP cover for the film's soundtrack. Provenance:From the personal collection of Afrika Islam
