An attractive and highly decorative mid 19th-Century English rosewood domestic medicine chest with folding double-doors
An attractive and highly decorative mid 19th-Century English rosewood domestic medicine chest with folding double-doors, with brass plaque for Macord & Hora Wholesale & Export Drugist's 58 MINORIES, LONDON , of cabinet style with brass, copper and silver-coloured stringing, inlaid and engraved brass leaves and motifs and mother-of-pearl decoration on exterior and interior, the interior with velvet-lining throughout, the folding double-doors ( cracks on two inner drawers ) each galleried to house twelve bottles (six medium, six small-sized) with facet-cut shoulders and stoppers and paper content labels ( three bottles missing, two replacements ), the central section with recessed area galleried to house ten similiar but larger bottles, the drawer beneath with engraved brass recessed handle and backplate fitted to contain six similiar small bottles, glass pill-tile atop a tray containing a handheld apothecary balance and weights and an ivory-handled spatula, and the lower area with glass mortar and pestle, measure and two jars with white-metal lids, the rear section holding two glass measures and a plaster iron, the case with key-hole and key -- 38 x 29.8 x 18.4cm.
