† An enamelled sheet iron street sign for London Street W2, 44.5cm.; 17½ins high by 78cm.; 30ins wide, (2 being offered), VAT will be charged on both the hammer price and buyer’s premium for this lot., The following enamelled street signs (lot 60 in the Live Sale and lots 640 to 747 in the Sealed Bid Sale) are being sold on behalf of Westminster City Council and all stood in the locations to which they refer., Martin Low, City Commissioner of Transportation for the Council has confirmed that; “All these signs feature the iconic black and red lettering which was first created by the acclaimed designer, Sir Misha Black in 1967. This font, which is a sans serif typeface, is unique to Westminster’s street signs and is not available anywhere else in the world. Other organisations are forbidden by copyright law to reproduce Westminster street signs, which makes them even more highly prized because of their rarity”., The buyer of each lot will be given a signed Certificate of Authenticity, relating to each sign as well as a letter of congratulation from Westminster City Council.
