AN EXTREMELY RARE SILVER-MOUNTED INDIAN FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS FROM THE ARMOURY OF TIPU SULTAN, RULER OF MYSORE, the two-stage barrel inlaid in gold with tiger-stripes within double lines continuing around the flared muzzle, and inlaid centrally with a tiger-mask tughra , octagonal breech with inlaid inscriptions within tiger-stripes and lines, breech tang with inlaid inscription, border engraved flat bevelled lock in the English taste, formed as a tiger-stripe and inlaid with gold inscriptions and a silver tiger-stripe mark, with safety-catch, rainproof pan and roller (cock with old repair, mainspring cracked), figured walnut full stock carved with stylised foliage, tiger-stripes each inset with horn, and a shell behind the tang, silver mounts engraved en suite and including side-plate pierced with a tiger-stripe, butt-plate, trigger-guard, escutcheon with tiger-mask tughra , and ramrod-pipes, iron sling swivels (one replaced), and original iron ramrod, the butt-plate and trigger-guard with tiger-stripe silver mark, late 18th Century 39½in.
