BIBLE, French, in verse. The Hague, 1753.
BIBLE, French, in verse. The Hague, 1753. 45 x 27 mm. (Lacks title and last leaf.) Contemporary red goatskin gilt, covers with a central fleuron and four floral tools at the corners, spine in four compartments with three raised bands, edges gilt and gauffred with initials "MES; in four nesting boxes: the first calf gilt with wavy lines and stars and lined with decorated floral paper; the second embossed floral paper lined with floral paper; the third marbled paper lined with green paper; the fourth calf gilt en suite with the book with marbled paper ends, the sides with the names of the recipients in gilt: Anna Elisabeta Schmitz and Johann Fridebig Schmeitz. Provenance : purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 10 March 1965. A very fine and handsome miniature Bible in the vernacular, presented as a wedding gift in four nesting boxes.
