Novum Testamentum, Cambridge, 1632, woodcut initials and tail-pieces, woodcut printer's device on final page, first few leaves dust-soiled, early ms. marginalia, small intermittent stain to upper blank margins, final few leaves lightly water-stained to lower blank margin, front pastedown renewed, 18th century vellum, soiled, spine with early manuscript title, and shelfmark label at foot, 8vo. Darlow & Moule 4678. The first Cambridge printing of the Greek New Testament, and the first Greek book printed at Cambridge. The text is taken from the first Elzevir edition of 1624, with 11 variations. The printing of Greek at Cambridge posed a problem as the Press there had no Greek type. Consequently the University asked Oxford for the loan of their matrices, which was agreed, and Buck had them (and some of the actual type) from 28th August 1629 until 24th June 1631. Type was cast from them (presumably in London), and the New Testament was printed on different sizes of paper to suit the requirements of customers. (1)
