[16], 207, [12], 122, [2] blank, [8], 98 pp. Half title, separate title for each part. 1 engraved plate (of 2). Woodcut on title page, woodcut initials and headpieces. 19th century full calf, morocco spine label, covers ruled in blind with blind-tooled floral cornerpieces. Lacking folding plate, fore-margin of present plate trimmed, soiling to title and occasionally throughout, some toning to leaves, loss to margins of two leaves (with no loss of text). Provenance: Ebenezer [?] Allen, Richard Cranch (early ownership inscriptions to half-title, both crossed out); John Peirce (professor of chemistry at Brown University from 1862-64; ownership signature, Brown donor inkstamp to half-title); Brown Library (blindstamp to half-title). SECOND AND MOST IMPORTANT EDITION, publishing for the first time "what Boyle called an 'hypothesis' but what we know as 'Boyle's Law': that the volume of air in a confined space varies inversely as the pressure" (PMM 143).
