CHAUNCY, Charles] A Letter from a Gentleman in Boston to Mr. George Wishart, one of the ministers of Edinburgh, concerning the state of religion in New-England , Edinburgh: printed in the year 1742, 8°, 24pp., mid 19th-century green half morocco, title with contemporary inscription reading: "An Account of Whitefield's mad Doings in New-England. A curious tract. Note, Mr Wishart is one of the worthiest ministers of the Church of Scotland, & one of the best preachers," bookplate of Robert, Marquis of Crewe -- A Brand pluck'd from the Burning exemplify'd in the unparallel'd case of Samuel Keimer , London: printed and sold by W. Boreham, 1718, 12°, FIRST EDITION, iv + 124 + 12pp. [the final part headed , "A Letter from John Lacy, to Thomas Dutton, being reasons why the former left his wife, and took E. Gray a prophetess to his bed," not called for on title and possibly issued separately], (some browning and staining), late 19th-century half calf by J. Leighton, corn sheaf crest to upper cover. [RARE. Apparently unrecorded in ESTC] With 2 works by Jeremiah White in one volume, and 6 other unusual and interesting tracts, including The Book of Sports as set forth by Charles I (London, 1709) and An Answer to the Book of Sports (London, 1709) in one volume.
