IN BOND ONLY SECTION CHATEAU GUIRAUD 1989 Currently lying at the Chteau & scheduled for immediate collection following the sale and transfer to Bond in London S.E.1. Transportation to London will be at the charge of the vendor. Offered in original wooden cases Offered in bond only Chteau Guiraud is the only other 1st Growth apart from Yquem which lies within the commune of Sauternes itself. The property, which had fallen into disrepair, was bought by the Canadian Narby family in 1981. Its revival has largely been thanks to the enthusiasm and dynamism of Hamilton Narby who supervised substantial re-investment in the vineyard winery and chteau. 75 hectares are currently under vines and the encepagement is 55 Smillon to 45 Sauvignon. 100 barrels are purchased each year enabling 25 of the wine to be fermented in new oak. The stylish label retains its traditional gold lettering printed on a black background but has been modified to incorporate the dolphin crest of the Narby family. Chteau Guiraud--Vintage 1989 Sauternes, 1er cru class. Chteau-bottled Tasting note: Excellent Sauternes: glorious honey and cream bouquet; rich flavour and an excellent acidity counterbalancing its concentrated sweetness. Michael Broadbent 1999 Tasting note: This is really subdued but all in reserve. There's loads of botrytis character underneath it all. Medium gold with an amber tint. Aromas of maple syrup and nutmeg. Full-bodied and sweet with lovely caramel, ripe fruit and vanilla flavours. Best after 2005. 95 Points. James Suckling, Wine Spectator. Tasting note: Huge, as well as penetrating aromas of vanillin-scented, smoky new oak and super-ripe pineapples soar from the glass. In the mouth this is a terrific, rich, full-bodied, in-your-face style of Sauternes. Fortunately, there is enough acidity to give it grip and focus. It will have to be monitored during its evolution given its precarious balance, but there is no denying the sumptuous appeal of this very sweet, alcoholic, honeyed wine. Robert Parker Wine Advocate. 1 dozen bottles per dozen
