Half titles, 72 soft-ground etched plates by William Daniell after Dance, with accompanying letterpress on thick paper, untrimmed copy bound from parts. (Lacking first title, some light spotting.) Modern half calf and old boards. Provenance : Lowther Castle (bookplates). FIRST EDITION of this portrait gallery of distinguished Englishmen, and a few foreign visitors, at the turn of the eighteenth century.
