The most extensive note is at the head of the list of contents of vol.III: 'All the sonnets except the few that I have marked appear to me wretchedly poor Memorials of Scotch Tour ditto Inscriptions do_', elsewhere he is less expansive but more complimentary: 'Most of them very pretty' or 'beaut:'!
