DARWIN, Charles. - WORDSWORTH, William. The Poetical Works. London: Bradbury and Evans for Edward Moxon, 1840. 6 volumes, small 8° (164 x 102mm.). Engraved portrait of the author by W.H.Watt after H.W.Pickersgill (spotted, title to vol.I spotted). Contemporary half-calf by J.B.Hawes of Cambridge (extremities slightly rubbed). Provenance : CHARLES DARWIN (1809-92, ink manuscript signature and date on each title, (most shaved with a little loss, pencilled notes). The most extensive note is at the head of the list of contents of vol.III: 'All the sonnets except the few that I have marked appear to me wretchedly poor Memorials of Scotch Tour ditto Inscriptions do_', elsewhere he is less expansive but more complimentary: 'Most of them very pretty' or 'beaut:'!
