Photographer: Bourne & Shepherd , Deen Dayal , G.W. Lawrie & Co . and unknown. Various images of the Delhi Durbar of 1903. 12 collodion paper prints and 3 platinum prints. Various sizes, between circa 24 x 28 cm and 15 x 20 cm. A few mounted to card. When Queen Victoria died in 1901 her successor was her oldest son Edward VII who reigned from 1901 - 1911. On the occasion of his coronation as Emperor of India in 1903, a gathering of all the most important Indian rulers took place in Delhi and was attended by 100 Maharajas. Lord Curzon, Viceroy of India, organized the event. This small group of images shows various scenes of the parades and reviews of the retainers and chiefs with decorated state elephants and state carriages in the arena during the Durbar. Also includes two large-format images showing the arrival of the Duke of Connaught and Luise Margareta von Preußen. – Some with handling creases, some with light traces of use, otherwise most in good condition.
