Eliot (presentation inscriptions to:) -- Geoffrey Curtis (gifted to:) -- The Community of the Resurrection, Mirfield (stamps and pressmarks). EIGHT WORKS INSCRIBED BY THOMAS TO HIS FRIEND GEORGE CURTIS. The books, variously inscribed 'To Geoffrey Curtis', 'My Dear Geoffrey', 'from his friend, 'affectionately', or 'to the Community of the Resurrection' include the Ariel poems The Cultivation of Christmas Trees , Marina , and Triumphal March (all published by Faber); Four Quartets (1944); The Cocktail Party (1950); On Poetry and Poets (1957); What is a Classic (1945); Knowledge and Experience (Farrar, Strauss, 1964). The Anglican priest George Curtis, later a member of the Community of the Resurrection in Mirfield, maintained a substantial correspondence with Eliot (see lot 16 in Christie's King St. auction 7760, 24 November 2009). With 8 others, most by Eliot, not inscribed but from Curtis's collection. (16)
