Emile Galle Art Nouveau Marquetry Inlaid Fruitwood Side Table

Estimate
US$1,500 - US$2,000
Price realised:
US$3,125
Beschreibung:

Emile Galle Art Nouveau Marquetry Inlaid Fruitwood Side Table Circa 1900 The shaped oval top decorated with stylized leaves and swallows perched on a wire, raised on a standard and leaf-form supports joined by a conforming stretcher. Height 29 3/4 inches, width 28 inches, depth 16 1/4 inches. Alastair Duncan and Georges de Bartha, Galle Furniture, p. 200, pl. 178 C
appears to be in generally good, sturdy condition; there appears to be an old small cigarette burn to the top surface, located near the outer rim edge near the "11 o'clock - 12 o'clock position; the thin cross rail above the fret chestnut cross panel in the stretcher area appears to be a later replacement or substitute: there are small wood strips that adjoin this strip to the panel below suggesting a possible repair; the thin cross rail is not as finely carved as the similar cross rail below; the table has likely been refinished: the underside has a sunfaded finish or appearance even though it is not really exposed to sunlight for fading; a custom cut protective glass top accompanies this lot, which is in good condition
