Four leaves from illuminated Books of Hours, on vellum [fifteenth century] four leaves, comprising: (a) bifolium from a Book of Hours, each leaf 180mm. by 125mm., with a full-page miniature of the Nativity (115mm. high), within a gold frame and a full border of acanthus-leaf sprays, other foliage and fruit, text on other leaf opening with a 5-line initial 'D' ("Deus in adiutorium ...", Prime from Office of Virgin) and 19 lines, within similar borders to facing leaf, southern Netherlands, c.1475; (b) leaf from the suffrages of the saints of a Book of Hours, 192mm. by 140mm., with a half-page rectangular miniature of St. Eligius (the patron-saint of metalworkers) wearing a bishop's mitre, seated on his tomb and holding a hammer, below 9 lines of text and within simple rinceaux borders, northern France (probably Brittany), c.1430; (c) leaf from a Book of Hours, 210mm. by 140mm., with three small square miniatures showing Christ's two hands and their wounds and a sacred heart, with 21 lines of text and border panels of foliage and fruit, southern Netherlands, c.1475; (d) leaf from a Book of Hours, 165mm. by 115mm., with a full page miniature of the Kiss of Judas, within a full decorated border, southern Netherlands, fifteenth century; last with some significant scuffs and flaking, else good, all in card mounts
