LATE SHANG/EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, CIRCA 1200-1100 BC
FOUR SMALL GREYISH-GREEN JADE BIRD-FORM PENDANTS LATE SHANG/EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, CIRCA 1200-1100 BC The smallest and thickest carved in the round standing with head facing forward, wings closed and tail downswept, with a hole piercing the chest and a tubular socket through the bottom of the legs; the second and third thick flat plaques, each with trailing crest and grooves detailing the wings and tail, one with hole drilled through the beak, the other with hole drilled through the chest; the fourth a thick flat plaque simply carved with long neck, raised head and upswept bifurcated tail, all with opaque ivory alteration, some with traces of cinnabar 1¼ to 1 3/8 in. (3.2 to 3.5 cm.) long (4)
