Beschreibung:

22 issues. Vol. 14, No. 1 (Jan-Feb. 1955) to Vol. 16, No. 10 (Nov.-Dec. 1958). Approximately 40-60 pages each. Illustrated with photographs, drawings, graphs and charts. Original wrappers; few tipped in B.I.S. announcements of a meeting, lectures, an officer election and book publications. The British Interplanetary Society was founded in the early 1930s, its first two decades of speculative pre-Space Age writing led by future science fiction author Arthur Clarke. By the 1950's the articles were more practical and the contributions became increasingly technical. The most notable essay in this group was Wernher Von Braun’s 1956 “Reminiscences of German Rocketry”. Other notable contributors included Robert S. Richardson, Andrew Haley, Eric Burgess, George P. Sutton, Kenneth Gatland and J.B.S.Haldane. Much of the subject matter focused on rocketry and the imminent launch of artificial earth satellites. There was also informed discussions of space law, radio exploration of the universe, extraterrestrial mining, psychological aspects of space travel, simulation of artificial gravity, and the mounting knowledge of the moon and Mars.
