Beschreibung:

body made from sheet steel now dull with rear visor shaped in the form of a lobster tail fitted with an elaborate brass comb surmounted with the face of Medusa and a black horse hair crest having a braided center. The front plate is emblazoned with a flaming bomb centered between wreaths indicating a heavy cuirassier regiment. Helmet is complete with original leather lined brass chin scale secured with brass circular medallions on either side. The back of the helmet is stamped G. Helbronner under 58. The interior leather liner is complete, missing only the draw string. The thin leather underneath the front of the visor is intact, but missing completely in the tail. Alternatively known as the M1855, M1872, or M1882 the helmet was obsolete by the time the French Army took the field in 1914. Most surviving photographs of French cavalry omit the wonderful details of this archaic style of gear showing only the drab canvas helmet cover. Condition: Helmet complete and undented with greyish color steel and unpolished brass, VG. Helmet is missing the ball plume mount above Medusa's head and the small red plume fitted on the right side.
