GODMAN, Frederick DuCane and Osbert SALVIN editors - MAUDSLEY, A.P. Biologia Centrali-Americana: or, contributions to the Knowledge of the Fauna and Flora of Mexico and Central America..Archaeology . London: for the editors by R.H.Porter and Dulau & Co., 1889-1902. 4 volumes atlases only, oblong 2° (310 x 500mm). 393 views, maps, plans and details of archaeological remains and artifacts (including the alternative plate 49 in volume I), mostly autotypes after Maudsley or H.N.Sweet, and lithographs, a few hand-coloured, others coloured or tinted. (Lacking the 2 volumes of text, occasional light soiling or staining). Contemporary red half morocco, spines gilt (edges rubbed, gilt ex-library stamp on spines). Although the principal part of Godman and Salvin's work is given over to fauna and flora, Godman felt that Maudsley's excavations and his photographs 'made a valuable addition to our knowledge of the country' (4)
