Chambers Date: 1887 Description: 134, [2] + 16 (blank memoranda pages) & [4] ad pp. Illustrated with 5 lithographed plates, including a chromolithograph frontispiece portrait of Tom Morris from a drawing by Thomas Hodge at St. Andrews, with tissue-guard, other 4 are duo-tone; plus several wood engravings throughout the text by Ranald M. Alexander. (12mo) 18x12 cm (7x4¾"), publisher's decorative brown cloth, front cover stamped in black, spine stamped and lettered in gilt with golfing vignettes, original floral patterned endpapers. First Edition. Signed by Gary Wiren on a bookplate. Scarce brown cloth issue; most copies seen in red-orange, also in green or gray cloth. Gary Wiren is a PGA Master Professional instructor. Wiren was the Director of Education, Learning, and Research for the PGA of America between 1972 and 1985, during which time he produced the "Laws, Principles, and Preferences" of golf swing instruction. He is the founder of three golf schools, and is now the senior director of instruction for Trump Golf Properties. Wiren is a member of both the PGA Hall of Fame and the World Golf Teachers' Hall of Fame. As an author, he has written fourteen books, and Wiren is also the founder of Golf Around the World. Donovan & Murdoch 820; Murdoch 118; Donovan & Jerris C8890. Lot Amendments Condition: Rubbing with light fraying at spine ends; crease to front free endpaper, mild toning to leaves, a few spots and stains, previous owner's name on frontispiece recto; very good or better.
