Österreichischer Bildhauer des 20. Jahrhunderts, Vertreter der Moderne nach 1950. Bereits als Jugendlicher Interesse an Schnitzerei und plastischer Darstellung. 1920 bis 1924 in Lage in Deutschland Ausbildung zum Steinmetz. Danach Studium der Bildhauerei an der Akademie der bildenden Künste bei Hans Bitterlich. Schuf Porträts und Modelle für die Porzellanmanufaktur Metzler & Ortloff in Thüringen. Während der NS-Zeit wurden seine Werke als entartete Kunst eingestuft. Ab 1951 Professor für Bildhauerei an der Akademie der bildenden Künste. Während der Sommermonate Aufenthalte im Waldviertel, Arbeiten mit Mühldorfer Marmor. Unter dem Einfluss des Kubismus Entwicklung in Richtung moderner Skulptur. Plastiken aus Marmor, Stein, Beton und Bronze. Entwickklung von einem idealisierten Figurentypus in Richtung einer plastischen Formgebung. Klassiker der modernen Bildhauerei, Vorläufer von neuen realistischen Strömungen rund um Alfred Hrdlicka. 1986 Gründung des Skulpturenparks in Bad Pirawarth zu Ehren des Künstlers.
