HAROLD STEWARD RATHBONE (BRITISH 1858-1929) FOR DELLA ROBBIA POTTERY'Alfred Ye Greate' panel, after Ford Maddox Brown, 1900
Moulded ceramic panel made in two sections, decorated in relief and depicting the Saxon King Alfred, painted in colours and glazed. Mounted in a gilded frame.
Panel: 69 cm x 57 cm
With frame: 84 cm x 57 cm
Signed on the front bottom right with HR monogram and 1900, the reverse incised 986C 9/1900.

Harold Rathbone became a pupil of Ford Maddox Brown in 1882 when FMB was working on a set of twelve murals for Manchester Town Hall which depicted the history of the city.
