Lot of 10+ items, mostly photographs of important women or those involved in the James Fisk Jr. love triangle. Includes: An autographed photograph signed by the most famous actress and singer of the 20th century, Lillian Russell; an autographed cabinet card of Shakespearean actress Ellen Terry labeled on the reverse by Theo. C. Marceau; a 4 x 5.5 in. photograph of Helen Keller with her signature pasted on the reverse; a 4 x 5.5 in. photograph of Julia Ward Howe with her autograph pasted on the reverse; a franked envelope signed by George Francis Train. Also included in the group are 5 items related to James Fisk Jr. and his deadly affair with actress Josie Mansfield. Includes: a Frederick cabinet card of Josie Mansfield; an autographed CDV of James Fisk Jr. in his militia uniform produced by Howell; a seated CDV of Fisk in his military uniform, labeled on the reverse by George Stinson and Co. Publishers; a Mora CDV of Fisk's murderer, Edward Stokes; and a stereoview of Fisk. James Fisk Jr., also known as "Big Jim", "Diamond Jim", and "Jubilee Jim," was one of the wealthy robber barons of the era. Unlike most, he was revered by working class men New York and the Erie Railroad until his involvement in Black Friday scandal in 1869. He had many extra marital affairs including the voluptuous beauty Josie Mansfield. Mansfield also had a wandering eye and began having another affair with Fisk's married business partner, Edward Stiles Stokes. Fisk left his wife and children for the actress while Mansfield left Fisk for Stokes. The couple attempted to extort Fisk, threatening to publish letters implicating him in various wrongdoings. Quickly hemorrhaging funds from an expensive legal battle, Stokes confronted Fisk about paying off his mistress. The fight took a violent turn and Stokes shot Fisk twice in the arm and abdomen. Stokes was tried three times, the first in a hung jury, the second with a death sentence and an appeal resulting in him serving four years of a six-year prison sentence in Sing Sing Penitentiary. Condition: Most are in good condition there is a small tear in the Keller photograph.
