Italian Neoclassical Giltwood Mirror In the manner of Lorenzo Dolci, probably Florence, late 18th century The divided rectangular mirror plates within a beaded, fluted and husk carved frame surmounted by a circular ribboned wreath enclosing love birds and flanked by winged grotesques, floral swags and bird finials, with pendent fruit and flowers, the apron with flowerhead swags, the sides with flowering urns with bearded head handles, on dolphin supports, the reverse with inscribed numbers 40684 in yellow and black. Height 7 feet 8 inches (1.42 m), width 42 inches (1.07 m). Lorenzo Dolci, the Florentine furniture maker and carver, whose influence is seen in the present mirror, with its crisply carved mythological figures, masks, flowers and urns, produced a related mirror in 1798 for the Palazzo Granducale di Livorno and now in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence, illus., Enrico Colle, Il mobile neoclassico in Italia, arredi e decorazioni d'interni dal 1775 al 1800, Milan, 2005, p. 201, fig. 42; see two related mirrors, p. 200 C
