Joseph Cornell American, 1903-1972 The Dichotomy - Zenos Dichotomy of Motion = For Lilian, 1972 American, 1903-1972 The Dichotomy - Zeno's Dichotomy of Motion = For Lilian, 1972 Signed, dated, titled and inscribed "The Dichotomy" for Lillian from Joseph 6/12/72 in the top margin; signed Joseph Cornell and inscribed as titled and Monday June 12-72. From Joseph on the reverse Pen and pencil on paper 9 x 6 inches (22.9 x 15.2 cm) Provenance: The artist Leila Hadley Luce Thence by descent to the present owner
The top edge of the sheet is torn from a spiral-bound notepad. The red and yellow pigments may have some minor fading, and the paper is lightly toned. A small brown spot on the paper at the top center edge. The sheet is not hinged and is loose between the backing board and the glass.
