KAWS(AMERICAN B.1974) Kubrick Bus Stop (Volumes 1 & 2) 2002 two complete sets each set comprising two painted vinyl figures with a model bus stop produced by Medicom Toy Corporation, Japan each contained within original card packaging overall 21.5 x 21 x 8cm 2 Note: ‘Do not sell my personal information’ - KAWS KAWS,,is an American designer and artist. His variety of toys, objects and collectables operate the space between fine art, design and consumerism. KAWS bridges the gap between the traditional art-lover and a new generation of individuals who have fully immersed themselves in urban, street culture and fashion. Collaborating with major fashion brands from Nike to Marc Jacobs while simultaneously exhibiting works at The Serpentine Gallery in London and holding a place in public collections, such as the Brooklyn Museum in New York, it is clear the appeal of KAWS is far reaching. KAWS work are both purchasable at auctions and galleries in addition to on luxury retail sites. KAWS oeuvre ranges in many forms, from large sculptures, to painting, to murals and extends to designs on trainers and collectable toys. Teapot, 2020 perfectly demonstrates this, capturing how KAWS has established himself as a widely recognisable artist through similar tactics to visual merchandisers. The teapot, is not just in this case a found usable object but too identifiable as a work by KAWS,,with the signatory ‘X’. However, unlike Merit Oppenheimer’s Object, (1936) a teacup, saucer and spoon in fur, KAW’S Teapot is fully functioning. The motif of the found object, the logo and brand identity of the artist himself are all themes at the within much of his work and can be seen in countless examples, from his set of three, Separated (Set of 3), 2021, mini vinyl versions of the artist’s much larger sculptures, to the Holiday Space Figure – Gold, 2020. ‘I wanted something you see that’s immediately KAWS and immediately Moonman’ – KAWS Holiday Space Figure - Gold, is a collaboration with MTV, and now a collectable piece of art, in an edition of 1000, clearly a nod to a reinvented silver spaceman used at the MTV Awards. KAWS provides us with yet another example of where popular culture and art meet
