Paris: Gabriel Martin 1730. 8° (194 x 130mm). Woodcut arms on title, woodcut head- and tailpieces. (Clean tear in lower margin of X6, just touching one letter, lightly browned, a few spots.) 19th-century maroon morocco gilt, central arms of J. Gomez de la Cortina, on sides, top edges gilt (a little rubbed). Provenance: Joachim Gomez de la Cortina, Marqués de Morante (1808-1868, armorial on binding and bookplate).

PRICED AND ANNOTATED in a contemporary hand and with a 4-page manuscript appendix at end, ‘Appendix ad theologos heterodoxos’. The sale catalogue of the library of Lambert de Thorigny, 'Président de la 2ème chambre des requêtes du Parlement de Paris' and 'Prévôt des marchands de Paris'. The collection was strong in 17th- and 18th-century editions of history, law and belles-lettres. This is one of the twenty-two catalogues by Martin to contain an index. Joachim Gomez de la Cortina, Marqués de Morante was a celebrated bibliophile and rector at the Madrid university and senator of Spain. North 33 (‘according to Balayé, the Bibliothèque du roi made significant purchases from this sale’).
