Land Charters Manuscript indenture, dated 21 August 1402, between Alexander, Abbot of Scone Abbey and Katherine Paxton, Lady of that ilk. Single sheet vellum, approx 9" wide by 5" high, wax seal of Katherine Paxton intact, written in Scots language, exchange by Katherine Paxton with Scone Abbey of the lands of Cragtoun called Craidmaile [in perpetuity] located in the Sheriffdom of Perth for Kynnochtri & Fothernes, also in Perthshire, in liferent to said Katherine Paxton; Perthshire land charter Manuscript charter, dated 4 June 1462, by Robert Logy, burgess of Perth, to Andrew Charters, of lands in Perth. Single sheet vellum, approx 10.5" wide by 7" high, lacking seals, written in Latin, small hole in right hand sector of text [no loss]; Perthshire land charter Manuscript charter, dated 18 March 1464, by Alexander Seres, burgess of Perth, to John Mirtone, Canon of Dunkeld, of 20 shilling annualrent from lands in Perth. Single sheet vellum, approx 10" wide by 5" high, two wax seals of Robert Balre, Bailie of Perth, and Alexander Seres, written in Latin (3) Note: The first of these charters is especially unusual as legal documents issued by women are rare in the Middle Ages, especially with an intact seal. This is also a good early example of the legal use of the Scots vernacular language, the earliest recorded example dates from 1380AD.
