Beschreibung:

A vintage guitar case, which originally housed a 1952 Les Paul prototype guitar. The case features an original "Cunard White Star To Europe" label addressed to "Mr. And Mrs. Lester Polfuss" aboard the Queen Elizabeth sailing September 3, 1952 from New York to Southhampton, England staying in first class, Deck B, room 79. The trip is chronicled in The Early Years of the Les Paul Legacy 1915 - 1963 by Robb Lawrence. Paul and his wife were traveling to London to perform a series of concerts and Gibson sent this case originally containing a prototype guitar for Paul to evaluate on his trip abroad. Paul recalled the case and guitar during an interview in the January, 1994 issue of Vintage Guitar magazine in which he recounted, "A while back some dealer from Detroit ... showed up at Fat Tuesday's. He had one of those original guitars with him. There is a label on the outside of the case that says, "To Lester Polfus / The Queen Elizabeth / England." Mary and I were on our way to England: when we arrived the guitar was waiting for me at the dock ... When we returned home, I had a meeting with Mr. Berlin, and we decided to change the design ... I'd like to have that old guitar back. " Accompanied by a photo of Les Paul posing with the guitar and case taken that night at Fat Tuesday's. 40 1/2 x 14 1/2in
