Lincolnshire, River Witham.- Rennie (John, engineer, 1761-1821) Copy letter signed to "The Committee of Proprietors of the river Witham", 2½pp. with address panel; to T. Townshend (Rennie's resident engineer in Lincolnshire 1812-21), London, 20th June 1816, a report on the engineering works on the river Witham, Lincolnshire, from Boston to Lincoln, small tear where opened, folds, slightly browned. ⁂ John Rennie had been involved with the river Witham since his first survey in 1802, and concluded in this report that "on the whole I consider that the Works are in an excellent state" but the costs had exceeded the estimates and stood at over £120,000, partly because of the replacement of Tattershall Bridge, a new lock and side cuts.
