Logarithms.- Treatise of the Construction of Logarithms (A): to which are Added, Tables of Logarithms, Sines and Tangents. From the Encyclopaedia, tables, contemporary boards, rebacked, corners a little worn, Philadelphia, 1802 § Maseres (Francis) Elements of plane trigonometry. In which is introduced, a dissertation on the nature and use of logarithms, woodcut decoration to title, woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces, 13 engraved folding plates, armorial bookplate to pastedown, contemporary calf, sympathetically rebacked, T. Parker for T. Payne and J. Whiston and B. White, 1760, [Tomash & Williams E9 & M59], 4to & 8vo (2) ⁂ The first is the article on logarithms from Dobson's Encyclopedia or a Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Miscellaneous Literature. The author of the second was an amateur mathematician, who took up the practice of law, and was appointed baron of the exchequer in 1760. His Scriptores Logarithmici in six quarto volumes (1791-1807) reprinted several of the older publications on logarithms.
