Gren.) mounted court style for wear, contact marks, nearly very fine and better (5) £160-200 Footnote Thomas Clarke was born in Caledon, Ontario, on 13 August 1887. Joining the Canadian Militia some years before the start of the Great War, he was an Orderly Room Sergeant with the 10th Royal Grenadiers when he enlisted in 1915. Employed as a Customs Clerk, he enlisted in to the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 23 November 1915, being appointed a Sergeant on the same day. With the 123rd Battalion he arrived in England in August 1916 and in France on 10 March 1917. With the 123rd Pioneer Battalion Canadian Engineers he served in the area of Paris and Rouen. He was later appointed Engineer Clerk with the 7th Canadian Engineer Battalion, and in February 1919 was appointed Company Sergeant Major. Clarke was discharged at Toronto on 29 March 1919. After the war he resumed his service in the Royal Grenadiers, being awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces L.S. Medal in G.O. 88 and in the Canada Gazette of 5 July 1924, and the Efficiency Medal (Canada) in the Canada Gazette of 3 April 1937. Sold with copied research.
