a highly artistic wartime compilation containing 30 identified CDV of 52nd Massachusetts officers assembled by 1st Lieutenant and Quartermaster Edwin C. Clark of Company C. The most unusual 4.5" x 6" album was made with applied gutta percha boards having a cut-out design over red velvet insets. The album contains a complete penciled index in the back with each photograph captioned in ink on the album sleeve with the name, rank, hometown, and other pertinent information derived from familiarity. Edwin Cook Clark of Northampton, Mass., had prior service as a junior officer in the 27th Massachusetts before joining the newly raised 52nd Massachusetts militia in October 1862. The regiment was a nine-month organization that served with the 19th Corps during operations against Port Hudson before mustering out in August 1863. Clark became regimental quartermaster in November 1862 and returned to Northampton after his service ended. He later became a member of W.L. Baker Post #86 of the GAR and lived until May 1898.
