Title: Map of the United States of America, Comprehending the Western Territory with the Course of the Missouri. Engraved for Bradbury's Travels Author: [Melish, John] Place: London Publisher: Date: 1819 Description: Copper-engraved map. 30.5x40.7 cm. (12x16"). The United States west to the Rio Grande and headwaters of the Missouri, published in the second edition of John Bradbury's Travels in the Interior of America, in the Years 1809, 1810, and 1811... Wheat notes that "The first edition of 1817 did not contain the map, which is a copy of Melish's [1818] map, and extends west only to the end of drainage to the Gulf of Mexico. The Missouri Fur Co. is named at a Fort on the Little Missouri River above Fort Mandan. Devalieterres' grant appears north of the Arkansas opposite the mouth of the (bobtailed) Canadian." Wheat Transmississippi 331. Lot Amendments Condition: A few neatly repaired, nearly imperceptible tears, some smearing near Chihuahua, else very good or better Item number: 168188
