Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Corunna (J. A. Lutman, Volr. 81st Foot) extremely fine £1200-1400 Footnote John Adrian Lutman was born in London on 24 October 1793, and was 15 years old when he volunteered into the 81st Foot in September 1808, being appointed Ensign in February 1809. He served as a Volunteer in the campaign in the North of Spain and in the action of Corunna on 16th January 1809, when he was wounded in the left thigh. He subsequently served as an Ensign at Walcheren and the siege of Flushing, under General the Earl of Chatham; and in Sicily from May 1810 to June 1812, under Lieutenant-General Sir John Stewart; as Ensign and Lieutenant on the East Coast of Spain, including the battle of Castalla on 13 April 1813, and siege of Tarragona in July and August 1813, under Lieutenant-General Sir John Murray; the blockade of Barcelona, February to May 1814, under Lord William Bentick; embarked at Bordeaux, 4 June 1814, for North America and served in the Canadas, under Lieutenant-General Sir George Prevost, and in the Michigan Territory under Lieutenant-Colonel McDonnell; on 1 August 1815, to France and remained with the Army of occupation until placed on Half Pay by reduction of the establishment, 17 April 1817; embarked for North America, 4 April 1821, and returned to England in September 1825 to join the Reserve Companies; appointed Captain in the 24th Foot, 13 February 1835, and served in Canada from June 1837 to July 1841, including the Rebellion in Upper and Lower Canada in 1837 and 1838. Captain Lutman retired on Full Pay on 9 May 1844.
