Military.- Hawkes & Co. (Thomas, military tailors, later Gieves & Hawkes) An original design for a Sabretache for the 5th Dragoon Guards, decorated with a running White Horse and the regimental motto 'Vestigia Nulla Retrorsum', with the cyper of George III surmounted by a crown below, numerous manuscript inscriptions and directions on colours and materials to be used, pen and brown ink over pencil, with pin-holes for transfer, inscribed and dated 'Mr Hawkes/ Oct. 27/ 1799' in the upper right corner, 360 x 300 mm. (14 1/4 x 11 3/4 in), under glass, numerous folds, some splitting, surface dirt, faint damp-stains and browning, several nicks and tears, framed, circa 1799.
