NODDER, Richard Polydore. A collection of 41 original watercolours from ? Vivarum Naturae, or the Naturalist's Miscellany , on 34 contemporary mounts with printed surrounds. [Circa 1798-1815]. (163 x 253mm. - 92 x 141mm.). Subjects form two groups: reptiles (14) and crustacea and other marine-life. 14 of the watercolours are signed or initialled (10 of these are dated). The majority are without backgrounds. Nodder, the son of the botanic painter and engraver Frederick Nodder, continued to provide plates for his father's Vivarum Naturae... (24 vols, 1789-1813) after the latter's death in 1800. He later 'obtained some repute as a painter of horses and dogs, and was an occasional exhibitor at the Royal Academy.' ( D.N.B. ). (41)
